Santa may be busy at work at the North Pole, but Christmas has arrived early for members of Queensland Government.
Dusting off the tinsel and pulling out the tree, the Speakers Hall at Queensland Parliament House was today transformed into a festive wonderland to help launch our Christmas Appeal for 2023.
Parliamentarians were tested on their gift-wrapping skills, taken on an interactive journey to learn about the patient experience at Queensland Children’s Hospital over Christmas and treated to carols by the Queensland Show Choir.
Special guests included Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women, the Honourable Shannon Fentiman, Shadow Minister for Education and Shadow Minister for the Arts, Dr Christian Rowan and our host, Member for Lytton, Ms Joan Pease.
Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO, Lyndsey Rice was thrilled to officially launch this year’s Christmas Appeal, which will see funds raised for immunotherapy research.
“Christmas is a special time for Queensland families – it is a time of joy, hope and togetherness and a time that our community comes together to change the outcomes possible for sick children and young people.
“This year, our Christmas Appeal is helping to fund immunotherapy research for children with cancer through our support of the Ian Frazer Centre for Children’s Immunotherapy Research.
“Now, the support of our community is more important than ever to help us change the face of cancer treatment – forever,” she added.
