Firefighters cross the finish line on 710km charity ride

Thirty-three determined firefighters today crossed the finish line on a mammoth 710km seven-day bike ride in support of Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The annual Bike 4 Burns event began in Gympie, finishing at Queensland Children’s Hospital, and raises vital funds to support life-changing research into childhood burns, a cause close to the hearts of all firefighters.

We are so proud to announce that this year, Bike 4 Burns raised more than $45,000, taking its 15-year tally to more than $800,000 – and we’re still counting!

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) Commissioner Greg Leach said QFES personnel had been training outdoors and indoors for the ride.

“Last year, due to COVID-19, the ride was forced to adapt and was transformed into a 12-hour One Day Classic,” Mr Leach said.

“The whole team was so excited to get back on the road, travelling through Queensland communities and raising vital funds while they are at it.”

The amazing $45,000 tally will support research to develop better methods for treating burns including reducing recovery time, scarring and pain as well as implementing burns prevention campaigns.
