Nine Telethon is back working wonders for sick kids

The seventh annual Nine Telethon in support of the Queensland Children’s Hospital Foundation was launched today, as well as the live fundraiser to be held on Saturday, November 14, on Nine and 9Now.

The launch, held at Fortitude Music Hall, saw Deputy Premier, Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services, Dr Steven Miles, announce the date of the 2020 Nine Telethon and the official ambassadors, who bravely shared their personal battles, shining a light on the life-saving care, treatment and research supported by the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Additionally, Steven Miles MP announced a $3.6 million commitment to this year’s Telethon, which will work wonders for Queensland’s sickest kids.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Steven Miles, said: “The Nine Telethon is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the resilience and strength of sick kids and their families and our health heroes, the doctors, nurses and health staff.

“This year has seen more challenges with the global pandemic of COVID-19. But that didn’t affect the determination and resilience of our staff and some of smallest patients in the state is something I admire greatly.

“I want to encourage all Queenslanders to donate what they can to this year’s telethon to help make a difference to the lives of our youngest patients and their families.”

Children’s Hospital Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Rosie Simpson, said: “We really need all Queenslanders to dig deep in these tough times for our sick and injured kids. The Nine Telethon is a great opportunity for all of us to come together and ensure that new medical equipment, critical research and support services can be provided to our sickest kids.

“I urge all Queenslanders to tune in on November 14 for a night of heartwarming stories and entertainment.”

Managing Director of Nine Queensland, Kylie Blucher, said: “We know it has been an immensely tough year for Queenslanders in this unchartered COVID-19 climate, none more so than our sick kids in hospital. We’re asking people to help where they can to once again show that famous Queensland spirit.”

In 2019, the Nine Telethon raised a record-breaking $13 million for the Children’s Hospital Foundation that went towards life-saving medical research, vital equipment, and patient and family support programs.
