Queenslanders have risen to the occasion once again, donating a record-breaking $13,466,704 to the sixth annual Nine Telethon for the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The staggering 2019 result brings the total raised for sick and injured kids since the first Nine Telethon in 2014 to an incredible $71.5 million.

Money raised from the Nine Telethon helps the Children’s Hospital Foundation support sick kids and their families by funding life-changing medical research, cutting-edge medical equipment and patient and family support programs.

Children’s Hospital Foundation Chief Executive Officer Rosie Simpson said she was always overwhelmed by the generous spirit of Queenslanders towards this special cause each year.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support of all of our corporate partners and every Queenslander who opened their hearts and wallets to help the hundreds of thousands of sick kids treated in the QLD Children’s Hospital each year,” Ms Simpson said.

“We cannot do what we do for Queensland kids and their families in the Queensland Children’s Hospital and right across the state every day without your help.”

“Thanks to your support, we can continue to work wonders for sick kids by funding research that achieves faster diagnoses, better treatments and ultimately cures for some of the most devastating childhood illnesses and injuries.

Outstanding contributions from the Telethon’s presenting partners and corporate donors included the night’s single largest donation to the Foundation, $3.5 million from Woolworths staff and customers.

Large donations from the Federal Government ($2 million), Queensland Government ($1.1 million), Golden Casket ($1.7 million), Sunsuper ($100,000), The Coffee Club ($250,000),) and The University of Queensland ($100,000) will enable the very best of care, equipment and research outcomes for our sickest kids.

Nova 106.9 also raised $83,496 for the cause through its second annual Nova’s Bids for Sick Kids silent online auction for Nine Telethon.

Nine Queensland broadcast the new-look 2019 Telethon across Queensland from four venues: the new Telethon Concert in The Fortitude Music Hall (featuring Icehouse, Sheppard and the ARC Supergroup); the Sunsuper Contact Centre; The Coffee Club Telethon Ball at the Royal International Convention Centre and a special viewing party for patients and families at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
