Home Who we are News 16 September 2019 Featured News Research honour for Dr Severine Navarro Associate Professor Severine Navarro, Preclinical Senior Research Fellow at the Woolworths Centre for Childhood Nutrition Research, has been recognised in the 2019 Young Tall Poppy Science Awards. The annual awards program, coordinated by the Australian Institute of Policy and Science, recognises and celebrates Australian intellectual and scientific excellence. Award recipients, known as ‘Tall Poppies’, become ambassadors for promoting science as an interest area among students and encourage a greater understanding and appreciation of science in the broader community. Dr Navarro is the first researcher to receive funding as part of the Woolworths Centre for Childhood Nutrition Research to further her revolutionary research into the link between parasites, their effect on our gut microbiome and food allergy prevention. To learn more about her research, click here Associate Professor Navarro said she was deeply honoured to be named as a Tall Poppy recipient in Queensland. “I truly love what I do and it’s wonderful to be recognised for my passion for medical research,” she said. “Working on projects that could improve the lives of people, and particularly children, with chronic inflammatory disease is personally very rewarding.” Congratulating Dr Navarro on her award, Children’s Hospital Foundation chief executive officer Rosie Simpson said the recognition was testament to the impact Dr Navarro was making in her field. “The Foundation is proud to support promising researchers like Severine from the early stages in their career to achieving significant outcomes for children’s health”. “We’re thrilled that Severine has been acknowledged as a 2019 Tall Poppy recipient and very proud to be supporting her important work for the Woolworths Centre for Childhood Nutrition Research,” Ms Simpson said.
