Fund critical equipment

Changing the lives of sick and injured kids

With your support, Children’s Hospital Foundation invests in state-of-the-art medical equipment that changes the lives of thousands of sick and injured kids and their families.

Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) – $7000

Children with hypoventilation syndromes need specialised equipment to support breathing overnight, and for some patients throughout the day. In some cases, this is to help support the patient for a period of time and in other cases this is a more permanent requirement. Children’s Health Queensland maintain a pool of equipment through the home ventilation program but unfortunately the availability of equipment can sometimes delay patients being discharged from hospital and being able to go home sooner.

Trilogy ventilator

Trilogy ventilator – $14,000

The Trilogy ventilator provides continuous respiratory support up to 24 hours a day.

Trilogy is a portable ventilator weighing less than 5kg.  It is fitted with both internal and detachable batteries, providing up to six to eight hours of autonomy.  Trilogy includes an SD card that can record up to one year of data so that physicians have a complete view of a child’s breathing patterns and can make any necessary adjustments to maintain the best possible therapy.

Portable suction units

Laerdal Suction Unit (LSU) – $2000

The LSU is a portable, powerful and highly reliable suction unit designed for optimal preparation in emergency situations.

Suction may be used to clear the airway of blood, saliva, vomit, or other secretions so that a patient may breathe. Suctioning can prevent pulmonary aspiration which can lead to lung infections. In pulmonary hygiene, suction is used to remove fluids from the airways, to facilitate breathing and prevent growth of microorganisms.
