MRI Head and Neck Coil

The Children’s Hospital Foundation has proudly funded an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) head and neck coil, which enables higher resolution images to be obtained of a child’s brain and neck.

This piece of equipment – made possible by a generous donor – enables clinicians to make more accurate assessments of the anatomy and pathology. It is particularly useful for children suffering from epilepsy, where the coil helps to display lesions not seen previously. The coil is used a minimum of eight times per day at Queensland Children’s Hospital. Prior to the coil being available some children had to have their MRI high resolution scans performed in Melbourne.

The coil now enables children to have their scans in Brisbane and avoid the financial and logistical stress of interstate travel.
