Continued volunteer services available for families

Our space swap will affect and improve services for patients and Families. The soon to be new location of the Ronald McDonald family room, Book Bunker and the continued support available at the Family Resource Centre read on for more service specific details

Ronald McDonald Family Room

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a warm and welcoming home away from home inside the hospital, away from the clinical environment of the wards. Managed by staff and volunteers, the Family Room contains lounge areas, TV, kitchen and refreshment facilities, play areas   and more, meaning there is always somewhere the family can unwind. Whether it’s somewhere for the kids to play or a sanctuary for mum and dad, the Family Rooms are for the whole family. The program will relocate to 2B and will retain the same facilities to support families whilst they are caring for their seriously ill or injured children..

 The Scholastic Book Bunker

Scholastic Book Bunkers operate in 3 major children’s hospital around Australia and offer a selection of over 10,000 books, (including audio books and tablets) for patients and their families to borrow while in hospital. The current play room space within the 2A Family Resource Centre will be transformed into a new custom designed library to house even more books and will provide comfortable seating to allow kids to come and sit and read in a relaxing environment. This new location will also provide a space for author visits and group reading activities. In 2018 over 11,600 books were borrowed by patients within the QCH and we hope to increase this engagement within the new improved location.
