Home Get involved Volunteer 11 March 2019 News Entertainment Volunteers Commencing 25 March the Bedside Play service will have a name change to Entertainment Volunteers! As we will soon have our new playroom on level 6 it is time to broaden the scope of what it means to be a Bedside Play volunteer in the Queensland Children’s Hospital! We want all patients, families, staff and visitors in QCH to know that our amazing Entertainment Volunteers not only support inpatients by the bedside but also the Emergency Department, Outpatients and visitors to our new playroom! Why limit ourselves with a name when we can entertain all children who visit the Queensland Children’s Hospital! This name change will also coincide with the opening of our new Children’s Hospital Foundation level 6 playroom on 25 March. The new playroom will provide more entertainment and distraction options for patients, families and visitors and will also have new times for our supervised play: Monday – Friday 9am – 12pm 1pm – 5pm 5.30pm – 7.30pm Weekends 10am – 1pm 1.30pm – 4.30pm These new times will also mean that there will be a change to the current Bedside Play volunteer morning shift. As of the 25 March the current Bedside Play shift of 9:00am – 12:30pm will become the Entertainment Volunteer shift of 8:45am – 12:15pm. Please speak to our supervisor if you have any issue or concerns with the new start time of your current volunteer role. We will also be introducing a new shift time of 12:45pm – 3:15pm. This is to cover the longer opening hours of our playroom, as well as to support other departments/area with Entertainment Volunteers during the middle of the day. If you would like to change your current volunteer shift time to this new time, please speak to your supervisor. To recap! As of 25 March, Bedside Play volunteers will be called Entertainment Volunteers! Our Play room will be open and the below new shifts will begin: Entertainment Volunteer Shift Times 8.45am – 12.15pm ** slight change of 15 mins 12.45pm – 3.15pm ** new shift 2.45pm – 5.15pm 5.15pm – 7.45pm We will, of course, communicate with you further to ensure that this new development is as seamless and undisruptive to you as possible.
