Home Get involved Volunteer 12 February 2019 News Space swap project The Children’s Hospital Foundation (CHF), Children’s Health Queensland (CHQ) and Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland (RMHC SEQ) have been working together to undertake a space swap within the QCH. The purpose of the space swap is to allow both CHF and RMHC SEQ to better meet the needs of the patients and families at the hospital through the provision of enhanced or new services. At a high level this project involves three phases: The reconfiguration and fit-out of level 2A (Family Resource Centre) to house the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Volunteer Services team, Scholastic Book Bunker, and existing Family Resource Centre services The re-design and fit-out of level 2B (currently CHF volunteer services) to establish the new Ronald McDonald Family Room program The redesign and fit-out of Level 6 (currently RMH Family Room) to house the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Entertainment Services team and new Kidzone play service. What this means to you The first major change will be our physical change in location to 2A, this is where you will come when you start your shift to sign on, collect your apron (if needed) and pop your things in a locker Our Play Room service will operate in the current Ronald McDonald Family Room on Level 6 during construction of 2A and 2B (Bedside Play volunteers, Kell and the Supervisors will provide you with more information separately) Our Book Bunker service will operate at a slightly reduced level from the back of our offices in 2B for the construction of 2A (Book Bunker volunteers Kell will provide you with more information separately) This is a very exciting time for us, to have the ability to grow our play room and provide a greater level of service to the patients and their families. Project Timeline The current project timeline for the space swap is outlined below: 25 January – commencement of construction for new office space in 2A 18 February – completion of construction in 2A CHF Volunteer Services team move from 2B to 2A Book Bunker is relocated into 2A 18 February – commencement of construction in 2B 4 March – completion of construction of 2B Ronald McDonald House Family Room to move services to 2B 4 March – commencement of construction in Level 6 Family Room 18 March – completion of construction on Level 6 Children’s Hospital Foundation Kidzone service to move to Level 6 To minimise disruption to clinical care, construction on level 6 will only occur on weekends. Both CHF and RMHC SEQ will utilise the current RM Family Room space on level 6 during the Space Swap period to enable both organisations to continue to operate their services, which will greatly minimise the impact to patients and families. chevron_leftPrevious article Share Next articlechevron_right Latest News & Events Australia’s only dedicated paediatric brain cancer research centre receives $500,000 boost from Golden Casket September 21, 2020 Read more Queensland Police officers ready to run 160km in 24 hours for sick kids September 10, 2020 Read more Liv’s brave shave for brain cancer research September 3, 2020 Read more Subscribe for the latest news There is always something interesting happening in our world.
