For ResearchersHome What we do Medical research For Researchers Applying for a research grant The Children’s Hospital Foundation provides grant funding for Queensland-based health and medical research through a transparent, competitive process in the following areas: Health services research to improve the delivery of healthcare People and project support for preclinical and clinical research i.e. laboratory and patient-oriented research to benefit children’s health Financial and mentoring support to help close the academic gender gap for outstanding female investigators in paediatric research Travel grants for emerging researchers to attend and present at conferences. Research Calendar Grant Purpose Value of Award Date Health Services Research (HSR) Stimulus Grant This grant aims to motivate clinician researchers to undertake high quality HSR; and provide ongoing mentoring and support, thereby building knowledge and strengthening innovation capacity. Grant includes financial assistance to engage expert health services research support. Up to $100,000 Closed 31 March 2020 Mary McConnel Career Boost Program for Women in Paediatric Research Financial assistance and mentoring support for exceptional female researchers to increase research delivery and dissemination and therefore ‘boost’ the researcher’s track record and competitiveness for future funding. Up to $50,000 Closed 7 April 2020 2020 Preclinical and Clinical Early Career Project-Support Grants Project support for up to one year for outstanding early career researchers that assists in building track record and establishing a research program. Up to $50,000 Closed 28 September 2020 2020 Preclinical and Clinical Early Career Fellowships Salary support for up to one year to attract and retain outstanding early career researchers, helping them to develop a track record and gain a competitive edge. Up to $100,000 Closed 28 September 2020 Assessment of Applications Applications for funding must align with CHQ strategies and themes identified in the Children’s Health Queensland Research Strategy 2018 – 2025 and Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service Strategy. All applications are reviewed and assessed by the Children’s Hospital Foundation independent Research Advisory Committee (RAC), which consists of distinguished researchers appointed by the Children’s Hospital Foundation Grants Committee. The RAC discusses application scores and recommendations in detail at a Moderation Meeting, which then determines the applicants who go forward to interview. Following interviews, the RAC’s final recommendations for funding are reviewed and approved by the Children’s Hospital Foundation Grants Committee.
