Applying for a research grant

The Children’s Hospital Foundation provides grant funding for Queensland-based health and medical research through a transparent, competitive process in the following areas:

  • Health services research to improve the delivery of healthcare
  • People and project support for preclinical and clinical research i.e. laboratory and patient-oriented research to benefit children’s health
  • Financial and mentoring support to help close the academic gender gap for outstanding female investigators in paediatric research
  • Travel grants for emerging researchers to attend and present at conferences.

Assessment of Applications

Applications for funding must align with CHQ strategies and themes identified in the Children’s Health Queensland Research Strategy 2018 – 2025 and Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service Strategy.

All applications are reviewed and assessed by the Children’s Hospital Foundation independent Research Advisory Committee (RAC), which consists of distinguished researchers appointed by the Children’s Hospital Foundation Grants Committee.

The RAC discusses application scores and recommendations in detail at a Moderation Meeting, which then determines the applicants who go forward to interview. Following interviews, the RAC’s final recommendations for funding are reviewed and approved by the Children’s Hospital Foundation Grants Committee.
